My Love

Romantic sonnets proclaiming
Earth shattering epiphanies
Ecstatic proclamations of
Undying devotion.

These things seem cloyingly
Sweet like the too sugary
Frosting on a grease
Filled donut.

The sweetness I feel for you

in my heart, in my very soul,
Seems to have been born in a
Burning, bubbling cauldron of suffering.

Your pain and mine, bind
Us in a way that creates a vast
Space for the joy that comes flooding
Into me every time I hear your precious voice

My love for you is simple,
Like that bond between molecules
Holding together the crucial elements of
Lives too often battered by denial and betrayal.

And so in that bubbling vat
Of scorching hot pain, my love has
Been fried to a deep golden hue, inviting
You to bite deeply and savor my relentless adoration
