Walking Away

Watching you walk away,
I find myself stuck
On the horns of
An all too familiar
Dilemma.

Should I call you back,
Persuade you to stay.
Jump into the wrestling
Match between you and your
Demons.

Is your walking away
A test? Are you
Exploring the limits
Of my commitment to
You?

Are you running away
From your past?
Or our future,
Real or imagined,
Suffering?

So much common ground.
But not enough space
Upon which to build
A life and love
Together.

Fear dances feverishly,
Shedding her seductive
Veils like snake skins.
Empty promises of
Safety

Echo noiselessly
In the distance
Like your footsteps
As you walk
Away.
