Old Stones

Uncertainty is intolerable
Or is it?
Safety and security
Are imperative
Or are they?

How can we die
Without knowing Why?
How can we be loved
Without loving the dark?

My old battered heart
Has been pieced back
Together so many times
Another fracture might
Reduce it to rubble.

Perhaps that wouldn’t
Be so bad.
A pile of old stones
Covered in lichen

And moss. Wet with
Tears of joyful
Surrender celebrating
The  unknowable capacity
Of the human heart.
