Reliable Foundations
Is that water dripping?
Or only the clock ticking
Away the moments
Of my too often
Unconsidered life.
In full sunlight
I light the candle
Hoping to burn away
The habitual complacency
Stuck uneasily in my throat.
I search around me
For a meaningful
Explanation of the
Loneliness and isolation
In the child’s eyes.
What responsibility
Do I bear for her
Wounded places?
Can I be the Great Stone
Upon which she can
Rest her weary head?
Perhaps trust is the only
Reliable foundation upon
Which her sweet precious life
Can be safely built.
Oh Great Spirit!
May I be worthy of her trust!
